FAQ

What are timber stakes used for?

Timber stakes can be used in a variety of applications. Timber stakes are commonly used as support for plants and trees, they can serve as formwork or temporary supports for landscaping projects and are ideal for marking boundaries or corners during project layouts.

What are your timber stakes made from?

Our timber stakes are made from radiata pine timber. This is a popular choice due to the combination of strength, affordability and versatility. Pine is lightweight yet strong, making it easy to handle and install while providing adequate support for various applications.

It has a straight grain and uniform texture, which contributes to its aesthetic appeal and workability. Additionally, radiata pine is fast-growing and readily available, making it a sustainable choice that is often more cost-effective than other timber species.

Are your timber stakes treated?

Our timber stakes can be either treated or untreated.

Untreated timber stakes are a cost-effective solution for various short-term applications such as tree supports. Untreated timber generally has a shorter lifespan in outdoor applications as compared to treated options. Over time, untreated stakes may warp, crack, or split as they dry out or swell with moisture, significantly reducing their structural integrity.

Timber stakes can also be treated to enhance their durability and resistance to decay, insects, and moisture. The treatment process typically involves applying preservative chemicals that protect the wood from the elements, making it suitable for outdoor applications.

It’s important to check for treatment specifications, such as those indicated by the Australian Standards for timber, to ensure the stakes meet the necessary durability requirements for your project.

Are your timber stakes responsibly sourced?

Yes. Capital Battens has a responsible wood sourcing policy that ensures we only accept wood from well-managed forests that prioritise environmental health and biodiversity.

Wood supply from certified suppliers is prioritised (such certifications as the Forests Stewardship Council FSC or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification PEFC).
